Righetti, SJ lost in volleyball playoffs
The underdog St. Joseph and Righetti volleyball teams both won 3-0 in the CIF Central Section boys volleyball playoff semifinals on Tuesday night.
In Division 1, Justin Moore had 13 kills and Trey Alexander had 12 as No. 2 Clovis defeated No. 6 St. Joseph 25-16, 25-20, 25-18. In Division 3, 4th place Paso Robles defeated his 9th place Righetti. Set scores were not available.
The highest seed is the host team for all Mid-District playoff events.
Clovis improved to 30-4. St. Joseph is 28-8. Paso Robles improved to 12-16. Righetti is 16-12 with road wins in his previous two playoff games.
St. Joseph is eligible for the regional playoffs. Only teams participating in Division 1 or Division 2 are eligible.
No. 2 Arroyo Grande will play No. 1 San Luis Obispo for the Central Section Division 2 championship Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. San Luis Obispo is the reigning Division 2 champion.

St. Joseph swept the 2024 season series against both teams, aiming for a third consecutive undefeated season in the Mountain League.

VCA lost in the second round
SAN BERNARDINO-ARROYO VALLEY Starting pitcher Ian Escobar and reliever Juan Navarrette combined for six hits, Valley Christian Academy's defense slipped and the Hawks advanced to Arroyo Valley in the second round of the Southern Division Division 7 playoffs. They defeated the Lions 6-2.
Escobar pitched the first four innings. Navarreta pitched the final three innings.
The Lions committed five errors. Half of the Hawks' six points were unearned. Arroyo Valley moved to 13-9-1. VCA finished with 13 wins and 6 losses.
James Fakhoury and Christian Brewer each had an RBI for the Lions. Mikey Rosas had one hit and two RBIs for the Hawks.
Lions starting pitcher Fakhoury pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and five runs.
