Kyle Galetich and Trev Hawk are integral parts of South Hamilton's football coaching staff.
For their efforts this past season, both were recognized by the Iowa Football Coaches Association as Class 1A Assistants of the Year.
“These two have been the core of our coaching staff since I started as a volunteer coach at South Hamilton.” South Hamilton head coach Paul Skirtvedt said. “They’re both big reasons why we’ve been so successful.
“Kyle can take a whole new group of offensive players and make them into running machines. Defensively, Trev can bring in new kids who might have been defensive backs and make them into running machines. We teach them to be great linebackers. They are both very good teachers both in school and on the field.”
The Hawks went 8-2 this fall and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
With Galetic leading the offense, South Hamilton scored over 50 points four times last season, including a high of 66 points. He ranked fourth overall in the state in rushing yards.
On the other hand, Houk's defense played well, recording two shutouts and giving up 14 points or fewer in the other six games.
South Hamilton has won at least four games in nine of the past 10 years, winning eight games four times during that span.
“One of the reasons I took the head coaching job was so they could help me along the way.” Skartvedt said. “Without either of them, we wouldn't be the team we are today.”
