BROOKINGS — The South Dakota State volleyball program has announced an 11-day trip to Brazil from June 11-22. The Jackrabbits will train, play and tour in four cities in Brazil.
“Our program is very excited that our 10-day trip to Brazil is just over a month away,” head coach Dan Georgaras said. “In addition to scheduled competition and a memorable team bonding experience, the NCAA allows 10 days of practice at Brookings before the road trip. This is a competitive advantage and should not be taken lightly. This additional summer access will give us a 20-day early start to our season in August. We are maximizing this resource to get us off to an even more successful season this fall. We plan to use it for
SDSU will begin its trip in Sao Paulo, where it will host a volleyball clinic and compete against local teams. The team will also visit Ibirapuera Park and São Paulo Municipal Market. The Jack family will then travel to Rio de Janeiro, where they will spend time at the beaches of Copacabana, Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer) and Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf Mountain).
The Jackrabbits will also hold clinics and compete in games at the Brazilian national team's training facility in Saquarema. The final stop of the tour is Cabo before returning home from Rio de Janeiro.
“Most importantly, I would like to express my huge gratitude to all the fans, boosters and supporters who made this overseas tour possible,” Georgarasu added. “This has been an important fundraising goal for us for the past four years, and we could not have achieved it without the help of so many people. We are extremely proud to be able to provide this experience for our student-athletes. We appreciate the support of the SDSU community.”
