NOLENSVILLE – The two-time defending state champion Brentwood High School boys soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 win Wednesday in Nolensville.
The Bruins improved to 5-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in District 10-4A play. Brentwood played to a draw with Franklin last week in the league opener for both teams.
“We didn't start the season undefeated (no ties) like we did last year,” Bruins junior Dawson Moonshower said. “Winning 3-0 in a match against a strong team in the district is a good result. We will not be satisfied with this match and will continue to move forward.”
Added first-year starter and teammate Leo York: “We shouldn't focus on the fact that we went 25-0 last year. We should focus on being undefeated this year.”
“We need to take it one game at a time.”
York kept a clean sheet for the Bruins in the game in goal. Moonshower said replacing last year's All-American goalie, Thomas Fields, Class of 2023, will not be an easy task.
“He's done very well so far,” Moonshower said. “If he plays with a lot of confidence, he'll do a lot for our team.” .
Nolensville had several scoring chances throughout the game, but the Bruins' defense was solid. The Knights' record was 3 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw, and 0 wins and 2 losses.
Moonshower scored two of Brentwood's three goals in the game. He scored goals in the 15th and 70th minutes for the Bruins. The first goal was a header inside the box with an assist from senior Jack Bowling, and the second goal was a right-footed shot that slotted into the bottom right corner.
“I want to give credit to my teammates. For the first goal I scored, Jack had a great ball in the box and I did my best to direct it into the goal,” Moonshower said. Ta. “The second goal was scored on the left and rolled into the bottom corner to seal the game.”
Louisville native Boling scored his second goal of the game in the 42nd minute, starting the second half with a bang from outside the penalty area.
“He (Boling) is a leader and a role model,” Moonshower said. “He brings a lot of athleticism and skill.”
Nolensville will play an undefeated Independence team on Friday at Thompson's Station, while Brentwood will host the “Battle of the Woods” against Ravenwood.
“We have to recover and face that game squarely,” Moonshower said. “This is a huge game for us.”
