Football fans who were worried they would only be able to get digital season tickets have been told that physical season tickets are also available.
Sunderland AFC moved to digital ticket sales at the start of the 2023-24 season, but some supporters said they had heard conflicting information and feared they would not be able to obtain physical tickets for next season.
The club says those without smartphones can still request a printed card, but there will be an additional fee and a deadline for requests is approaching.
Stan Simpson, 82, a long-time season ticket holder, said, “I want to pick up tickets, but I'm nervous about receiving them over the phone.''
Organizers at Durham's support branch said they found it much easier to have a ticket in hand than to continually update the correct screen on a phone.
“Clarity”
Fan Russell Cooper, 51, expressed concern that there was no clarity on the club's ability to continue holding physical cards.
He said: “We know there is a significant number of spectators at the Stadium of Light who want white cards and that has just been clarified again by the club and we understand that. I don't feel like I'm there,” he said.
Sunderland AFC said anyone wishing to have a physical card must notify the club by Friday, in which case a “small fee” will be charged.
The club said information about tickets had been available on its website since the renewal period began in March.
