14 years old sienna touheyHe turns 15 on March 9 and made his final attempt to break Liesel Jones' Australian age record on Saturday, traveling three-and-a-half hours to the Australian Capital Territory to swim in a qualifying event.
She swam the 100m breaststroke in 1:08.58, just barely slower than last weekend's 1:08.39, but about three-tenths of the way to Raisel Jones's fastest swim ever by an Australian 14-year-old.
This was probably Toohey's last attempt at the record before she got older, but in her words, “Now I just want to break the 15-year-old girls' record of 1:07.49.”
“New era, new goals,” she said.
Her splits last week were 32.07/36.32. This week she came out aggressively to achieve her record and she recorded 31.72/36.86, but she was ultimately unable to maintain her record.
Jones' 2000 100 chest record of 1:08.30 stood for another year. Her 15-year-old record in the same event, 1:07.49, was set in September of that year.
