Cronk commits to North Carolina State
Flagler-Palm Coast defensive end Colby Cronk has one less thing to worry about as he heads into his senior football season this fall: deciding where to attend college.
The junior, who has received at least 13 Division I football offers to date, has committed to North Carolina State University.
“I am very happy to announce that I am 100% committed to North Carolina State University,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on March 22. “Thank you to all the universities that have hired me. It's an honor. Time to get to work!”
Cronk said: observer North Carolina State University is “definitely the right school for me.” He announced the decision a day after returning from his second unofficial visit to the school.
“I wasn't going to commit when I got there, but once I got there, it made sense,” he said.
During his first visit to Raleigh, N.C., in January, he took advantage of Junior Day to visit nearby Wake Forest. This time, he was invited back to watch spring practice.
“The first time I could only see the football facility, which is great, of course, but I couldn't see the campus at all,” he said. “I was able to see everything this time. I was able to see how (defensive line coach Charlie Wiles) coaches. Their practice schedule is very similar to our schedule at FPC. , which is also very interesting. I attended several D-Line meetings and was able to observe how they analyze movies. It's unique to D-Line. We When you do that, it’s a total defense.”
Cronk said the coaching staff and engineering department are what separated the Wolfpack from the other schools that offered him.
“The coaching staff is great,” he said. “On the academic side, I was able to meet with one of the engineering professors and get information about their opportunities.”
Cronk led the Bulldogs last season with 75 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback sacks and 46 quarterback tackles.
Duke University, University of Pittsburgh, Wake Forest University, Vanderbilt University, Iowa State University, University of South Florida, Florida International University and others offered him. Cronk will become the first Flagler County football player to sign a letter of intent with a Power Five football conference team out of high school. Some transferred to Power Five schools.
“Right now I have to worry about getting better and playing football,” Cronk said. “I'm really happy with this decision. I'm really excited to be a part of the Wolfpack.”
