San Marcos girls swimming placed 17th at the CIF state meet held Saturday at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex.
The Royals team that made the trip consisted of Sierra Tallman, Taylor Steelman, Sophie Yonker, Makenna Stretz, and Sophia Hall
“I couldn't be more proud of my program and the girls who competed this weekend,” San Marcos coach Chucky Ross said. “This was a team effort. It's hard to always be at your best at the end of the season.
“We had great swims and competed against the best swimmers. Every swim was very competitive and decided by hundredths of a second, tenths of a second. It was fun.”
Steelman had the best performance of the day for the Royals, placing fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.10. He also placed 15th in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:04.14.
Steelman's times in the second inning were notable throughout the United States.
Meanwhile, Tallman took 12th place in the 200 freestyle (1:50.76) and 13th place in the 100 freestyle (51.09). She became the first Royal in 20 years to record All-American times in three events (200 IM, 200 freestyle, and 100 freestyle).
In the relay, Steelman, Hall, Yonker and Tallman all placed 10th in the 200m freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.21.
In the 4×100 freestyle relay, Hall, Tallman, Steelman and Stretz finished in 3 minutes, 30.67 seconds for 13th place.
