Sentell's Intel representative said: Georgia football recruiting We have the latest information on 4-star QB Ryan Montgomery. He is ranked as the No. 15 QB in the nation by the 247Sports Composite and the No. 184 overall prospect in 2025. On3 industry rankings rank him No. 15 QB and No. 197 overall.
Georgia is primarily considering three QBs for the 2025 class.
Julian Lewis. Ryan Montgomery. Matt Zollers.
Lewis remains committed to the University of Southern California, but is also taking a closer look at Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. After Lewis' recent visit to California, he will likely end up going to one of those schools if he doesn't stick with the Trojans.
DawgNation saw Zollers make his final selection as Missouri's first commitment in the 2025 class last Thursday.
I heard this weekend that Montgomery's timeline is accelerating. He never had a set schedule, but he does now.
Montgomery currently plans to make a decision in early May.
That's wise. This gives him a chance to see what his finalists (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina) will do in the April transfer portal window. This will give us a clearer picture of what those rooms will look like beyond the 2024 QB signing.
A brief explanation follows.
- Florida State signed the nation's No. 2 QB and No. 7 overall rookie (DJ Lagerwey) out of 16 high school signees.
- Georgia signed Ryan Puglisi, the No. 10 quarterback in the nation out of 28 high school signees and the No. 113 overall recruit.
- South Carolina signed Dante Reno, the nation's No. 33 quarterback and No. 513 overall recruit, along with 16 high school signees. They also acquired two QBs in the transfer portal.
Montgomery, ranked No. 184 in the nation this season, has stressed that he doesn't mind waiting his turn and developing, but this is a good snap for the names he will be competing with for the majority of his career at these schools. It's a shot.
The four-star athlete from Findlay High School in Ohio just visited Florida over the weekend. He still has plans to travel to South Carolina for the spring game on April 20th.
He also apparently took one last trip to check out UGA before making his decision. DawgNation has learned that Montgomery has removed his official visit to UGA in June from his calendar.
Mr. Montgomery is scheduled to take up his post in early May. He is scheduled to make an official visit to the school later that month. He made another unofficial visit to the school in June and secured an appointment. We are currently looking into ways to help him build that class.
There's no question he's an immediate asset in Florida and South Carolina. Montgomery is believed to be the only QB candidate the Shamcocks are interested in.
The Gamecocks will likely wait for Montgomery's decision before prioritizing another QB. It mirrored the situation with Mr. Zollers and Mr. Mizzou.
The question remains whether the Bulldogs will like him right away. Has the Zollers news changed that? Montgomery's camp isn't so sure about that at this point.
We also need to clarify what Lewis is planning. The No. 9 overall prospect nationally remains Georgia's primary target in the 2025 cycle.
The Bulldogs may be waiting to see if Lewis makes a decision before moving on to Montgomery.
In that case, the window there will close.
DawgNation currently believes Montgomery will not wait for the early May timeline. He has no intention of extending his May schedule while waiting to see what decisions other prospects make going forward.
The Montgomery family is used to hiring big-time talent. His older brother, Luke, was an All-American in high school and signed with Ohio State University. He has made many trips to check out his UGA and other schools.
Culture, growth, and overall roster are big draws to becoming a Bulldog.
He completed 71 percent of his passes for 3,377 yards and 38 TDs last fall. The two-sport athlete (basketball) also scored 10 touchdowns. He gained 491 yards in a game last fall, breaking Ben Roethlisberger's school record for passing yards.
The moving parts here create three possible scenarios for UGA with a high school quarterback in the 2025 cycle.
- Accept Montgomery's promise by early May deadline
- Choose Lewis or Bast as QB for this cycle.
- Bring in a transfer portal QB in April or after the 2024 season to compete with Puglissi and Gunner Stockton for the 2025 season
There are significant moving parts here, but the Bulldogs have already solidified the future of Mike Bobo's room by adding the commitment of five-star QB Jared Curtis in the 2026 cycle.
Curtis, who committed in late March, is rated as the nation's No. 1 quarterback in this class. Although his signing date is 20 months away, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound rising junior seems pretty happy with his decision to become a “Dawg.”
