Renton boys soccer team makes history
For the first time since 1985, Renton will be on the field as a representative at the state tournament.
Renton High School is represented in the boys soccer state tournament for the first time since 1985.
Renton had to work overtime to get there and finished fourth in the 2A KingCo when it competed in the district tournament. The Red Hawks were the 11th overall seed and were in a repechage game all along.
Renton defeated Enumclaw (3-0) and Clover Park (3-0) before the biggest game of its career against rival Sammamish.
Throughout the regular season, Renton and Sammamish tied in both games this season (March 29, 2-2; April 23, 1-1).
Renton defeated Sammamish on May 11, winning 2-1 and advancing to the state tournament. The RedHawks will play No. 6 seed Columbia River on May 14 in Vancouver.
Also of note is that the Red Hawks have only appeared in the state tournament three times in school history: 1985, 1983 and 1982. All three years, Renton is still looking for its first state championship win. Considering how successful and noteworthy this season has been, there's more history to be made with this group.
