Hillcrest Academy, Danville vs. New London lost on the same day
WAYLAND โ The Hillcrest Academy and Danville-New London soccer teams each advanced to the Southeast Iowa Super Conference soccer semifinals on Friday night. Both teams were eliminated the day before the championship.
Hillcrest Academy escaped a tough battle with Highland in the quarterfinals, winning 1-0, but the Ravens lost a close game to Notre Dame on Friday night.
Hillcrest erased Notre Dame's 2-0 advantage with two second-half scores, but fell behind 4-3 in the shootout and lost in sudden death with the score still tied at five shots.
Seth Ours scored the Ravens' first goal, cutting Notre Dame's lead in half. Mason Schwarzentruber scored the next goal, scoring one off a cross late in the second half.
Danville vs. New London was uneventful on the first day of the tournament. The Bears defeated Columbus 8-2 thanks to Kadu Garcia's hat track and Colin Peeler's two goals and four assists.
In Friday's semifinal, D-NL faced Mediapolis. The game was back-and-forth until the final minutes, when a 3-2 Bulldog lead quickly turned into a 6-2 Mediapolis victory.
In the loss to Mediapolis, National League goalie Aiden Koenig had to make 17 saves to keep the game close early on. Peeler scored one goal, as did Taran Whaley.
WACO played one game in the tournament, losing 2-1 to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. The Warriors hosted both Friday's semifinals and Saturday's finals.
In the final, Mediapolis defeated Notre Dame 4-1 to take home the SEISC title.
