HAVANA, May 28 (ACN) – The Cuban women’s volleyball team will face the Peruvian team today in the continuation of the first Pan American Women’s Under-17 Volleyball Cup, which will run until June 1 at the Sports Dome in Guatemala City.
The pupils of technical director Karina Menez Carrión will be looking for their first win this Tuesday after losing 0-3 (17-25, 14-25, 20-25) to Mexico on Monday, while Peru will be looking for their second win since losing their debut match against the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-19).
According to the tournament website www.norceca.net, the official overall statistics of the match between Cuba and Mexico showed that the Mexican favorite was superior in attack 35:22, in serves 7:3 and in her own mistakes, which caused many errors to her rival, 21:29, while Karina's pupil outscored Mexico in the minimum points in blocks (5:4).
Individually, Aitana Letke Tanguma stood out as the match's leading scorer, scoring 16 points on the offensive and 1 point on the block for a total of 17 points. Following him, the only Cuban player to score in double figures was secondary attacker Sareto Valdés (14/10-2-2).
The other match in Group A will see the reigning North, Central America and Caribbean (NORSECA) U-20 champion Dominica take on a Mexican team, while in Group B, Costa Rica will face Puerto Rico and Venezuela will face Guatemala.
As approved by the technical meeting, the winners of each section will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the second and third place teams will advance to the quarter-finals, which will determine which teams will compete for the title and medal.
The cup is part of the qualification system for the 2025 Norseca tournament and the 2026 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championship in the same category.
