Experience was clearly one of the characteristics Poway High School was looking for when it was searching for a new head football coach.
The Titans did just that when they selected 53-year-old Brandon Harris, who made stops in Arizona, Florida and New York before spending a year at Canyon Hills High School in Tierra Santa.
Harris, a wide receiver at Lawndale Leuzinger High School, played at the University of Idaho before training camps in Denver and Miami in the NFL. He also had a brief stint with the Sacramento Surge of the World Football League.
Harris is known for going the extra mile to find the right college program for players of all levels. He counts 155 of his former players on scholarship, half of whom are attending Division I programs.
He has also had a lot of success, winning three state titles as a head coach and three more as offensive coordinator.
“Poway High School is a storied program and it speaks for itself,” said Harris, who held his first meeting with players and parents last week. “There has been tremendous support for all sports, not just soccer. Our first meeting was standing room only.
“I know there are challenges in this job, and there are for everyone, but the school has been really successful. I'm looking forward to it.”
Harris replaces veteran Kyle Williams, who spent the past three years at Poway High School and served as the football coach for nine years.
