BENGALURU: Will Jacks, who averaged a run-a-ball, scored 17 runs against Gujarat Titans before switching gears, scoring 83 runs off 24 deliveries. He raced from 50 to 100 in 6 minutes! The conversation still revolves around last week's blinder, but the all-rounder has since moved on to the next step. Rather, Jax knows that a lot can change in a short period of time, given the city's format and weather.
“We had a lot of time between matches and we spent two days in Goa. We got some great training here to re-evaluate for the next match. There's a lot of talk about this (century). I think it's time to move on to the next game,'' Jacks said on Saturday, on the eve of a crucial match against Gujarat here.
Jacks, who has played seven ODIs and 11 T20Is for England, mainly as an opener, came on as a substitute for Glenn Maxwell and had to adapt to a change in role and batting position. Prior to the IPL, Jacks played the opening innings for the franchise in SAT20 and Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year.
Jax admitted that changing roles was difficult. “It's something I'm adapting to. I started doing it in the Caribbean in November for England. The hardest thing I've found is getting in outside the power play. Usually on the first ball. When you face it, you have to look at some things. I think it's more of a mental thing,” he pointed out.
The next four matches will be the finals for the Bengaluru team, but Jacks said he will not feel pressured and will focus on performance.
“What we have been talking about as a batting unit is to play freely. At the beginning of the tournament we were probably behind other teams in terms of batting average and we didn't get the results we wanted. So we talked for a long time about how we play. We've been taking risks at the right times and putting pressure on the bowlers and that's worked well for us lately. “I'm saying that,” Jax explained.
