PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers once again strengthened their roster through the transfer portal this offseason, adding Colorado guard Mikayla Johnson.
Johnson announced his commitment on Twitter and took numerous photos at the Petersen Event Center, including one with his family, one dunking a basketball with head coach Torrey Verdi, and Also included are photos with the rest of the coaching staff, including John's assistants. Markham, Candace Finley, and LaKare Malone.
Johnson spent two seasons at Colorado, redshirting his first season and serving in a reserve role last season. She appeared in 15 games and averaged 1.9 points and 0.8 rebounds per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the field.
Colorado has recently emerged as one of the best programs in the country, making back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances during Johnson's tenure.
She is from Anchorage, Alaska and played at Bartlett High School, averaging 17.1 points per game.
Johnson is the third transfer to join Pitt this offseason, joining Clemson University forward Makayla Elmore and Kentucky guard Brooklyn Miles.
Pitt head coach Torrie Verdi is looking to add more players to the roster after many players entered the transfer portal after last season. Pitt finished 8-24 overall and tied for last in the conference with 2-16 in the ACC.
Other guards on Pitt's roster include seniors Vera Perkins and Miles, juniors Marley Washenitz, Aislin Malcolm and Raven Boswell, and freshman Audrey Biggs.
All-ACC forward Riatu King joins forwards Laprouchi Ayodele and Gabby Hutcherson, who also walked on Senior Day, and guard Jasmine Timerson Jr. in the portal.
