The two-time state champion's mindset is always leaning towards wanting more.
Back in April, Aegis 2022-23 Boys Swimmer of the Year Cade Snyder wrote in his report after setting a state record in the 100 backstroke at the Class 3A/2A/1A state meet. I would like to shoot in several different events.” Senior season at Patterson Mill.
Specifically, Snyder, who plays for the University of Delaware, had his sights set on the 100-yard butterfly. Snyder's accomplishments over the weekend at the University of Maryland Eppley Recreation Center included a state title and a state record time of 48.04 seconds in the 100 fly. This record was set in 2019 by Alex Colson.
Snyder also placed third in the men's 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 48.58 seconds and taking the top spot over second place Gavin Carson (Harford Institute of Technology) by more than five seconds.
Snyder also competed in the third leg of the Huskies' boys 200 medley relay, finishing 13th out of 24 teams with a time of 1:48.70. Harford Institute of Technology finished fifth in the event (1:43.81), Bel Air ninth (1:45.87) and C. Milton Wright's team finished 14th (1:49.87).
Harford Tech's Megan Nguyen won the state title in the women's 100 fly. Her time of 59.8 was a good time for her second place behind Northern's Cedar and Gallaudet (59.0).
In the women's 200-meter individual medley, Nguyen placed fourth with a time of 2:19.53. Fallston junior Kate Taylor took a close seventh place in 2:23.83.
Carson placed third in the men's 100 freestyle with a time of 48.86 seconds.
Bel Air junior Colin O'Hare placed fifth in the boys' 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:49.43. C. Milton Wright junior Ellie Hanson placed fifth in the girls' event with a time of 2:02.4. Hanson then placed third in the women's 100 freestyle (55.40 seconds).
Rory Jenkins also finished in the top five in the Harford County boys 50 freestyle. He finished in 22.73 seconds, less than two seconds behind the winning time.
Two Harford County representatives finished in the top three in the 100 breaststroke. On the girls side, Edgewood junior Katherine Whipkey was third (1:11.12). On the men's side, Michael O'Leary of North Harford University was 0.5 ticks behind in second place (59.34 points).
Harford Technical College led all area boys teams, scoring 115 points and finishing in seventh place. Fallston had a 75-point lead over the Harford County girls team and was on pace to finish 10th in the state.
