Paris Hilton recently caused quite a stir among parents when she posted a TikTok video of herself swimming with her one-year-old son, Phoenix, who appeared to be wearing his puddle jumper the wrong way.
43 year old A Simple Lifestyle The star shared a video on Sunday of her holding her toddler in a hotel pool, with Phoenix wearing a blue swim ring that covered his back and arms. “Adventures with Baby P,” Paris captioned the adorable video of the couple's fun moment.
However, eagle-eyed spectators quickly noticed that the paddle jumper – a type of life jacket for children – was being worn upside down.
“Mum, this is advice from other mums who do puddle jumps, but I think it's upside down. I love this video though, it's pure fun,” one fan wrote, with the comment getting over 800 likes, showing many people agreeing with the sentiment.
“Your little life jacket is upside down,” another follower added, but reassured Paris, “You're a great mom!!! Enjoy every moment.”
A third person acknowledged the common mistake, writing: “The swim ring is worn upside down. The clip is on backwards which happens to a lot of new mums.”
A swimming instructor joined us and offered some expert advice: “Swim teacher, why don't you try replacing your paddle jumper with a float jacket? It will help you swim more easily as you will be able to use your arms more.”
Paris hasn't publicly responded to the comments about the float, but she shared another TikTok video on Sunday showing Phoenix happily wandering around the beach with her, suggesting her son is doing well despite the earlier chaos.
The Parisian star has been candid about the learning curve of becoming a mother since welcoming Phoenix via surrogate in January 2023 with her husband, Carter Ream.
Their daughter, London, was born in November of that year. Earlier this month, Paris again sparked concern from her followers after posting a video of herself putting her child in a forward-facing car seat, even though it's illegal in many places to do so for children under the age of two.
As one concerned viewer commented, “Please double check the car seat manufacturer's recommendations on whether LATCH and belt can be used at the same time – usually absolutely not, and it's the law that children must be seated rear-facing until age 2.”
Paris took the feedback in stride, posting a follow-up video of her kids properly secured in rear-facing car seats.
“Thanks for all the mommy advice. I'm new to this,” she wrote, before humorously adding, “The #CutesieCrew is now ready to hit the road in the #SlivingMom van.”
In the comments section, Paris also acknowledged that “nobody is perfect,” and expressed her willingness to learn and adapt as she navigates the challenges of parenting.
