Omaha Skutt is still alive for a fourth straight championship after a 3-1 win against Norris in the first round of the Class B girls state tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
Third-ranked Norris still can’t get past No. 4 Skutt (12-6). Skutt had beaten Norris in the championship match the past three years, including in a shootout the past two seasons.
Skutt gained the advantage just seven minutes into the match. Skutt was awarded a penalty kick, and junior Corinne Merkel drilled the shot to the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
On the second goal, Milayni Cain and Maura Ausman combined for a great goal. Cain dribbled down the end line before making a short centering pass that Ausman blasted in from 6 yards.
In the second half, Skutt made it 3-0 when Abby Ostergaard scored right in front of the goal.
Norris’ goal came with 33 seconds left in the match on a long shot by Kennedy Sullivan.
Skutt dominated in possession for long stretches of the match, and led in shots on goal, 6-2.
Skutt will play the winner of Omaha Duchesne-Elkhorn on Saturday in the semifinals.
