The Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball roster saw some turnover this offseason. However, this is not uncommon in college basketball. Every program in sports is working on this. This is the current era of college athletics, and college basketball roster construction has changed because of it.
Oklahoma State and Steve Lutz needed to fill out the roster after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike Boynton, the program's head coach for the past seven seasons. After Boynton left, many of his top recruits followed. But not four-star signee Jeremiah Johnson. He remained committed to Oklahoma State University.
As mentioned earlier, Johnson is a four-star recruit. He's a big contributor to Boynton's 2024 class, and it's good for the program that he's still headed to Stillwater. In his recent 247Sports recruiting rankings update, Johnson's overall ranking skyrocketed.
Previously ranked as the No. 141 prospect in the nation, Johnson moved up two spots and is now ranked No. 139 in the nation. He is the No. 13 point guard in his class and No. 8 prospect in the state of Arizona. Still, Johnson's contributions to Oklahoma State have been incredible, helping Lutz get a head start on recruiting and roster building this fall.
Johnson is from Oklahoma State, and the Cowboys beat Oklahoma State, TCU and SMU to qualify for him last fall. Since then, he has moved around during his high school basketball career, spending time in both Utah and Phoenix.
The four-star guard averaged 18.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game last season in high school. The talented 6-foot-3 guard reaffirmed his commitment to Lutz and the Pokes after Boynton was fired.
“When I came to Oklahoma State, obviously I came for who the coaches were, but I also came for the community and I just wanted to play in an Oklahoma State jersey and I always wanted to do that. ,” Johnson finally told Pistols Firing Blog. Month.
Johnson said the program keeping Cayton Page was huge and helped him decide to remain committed.
