ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) โ Arike Ogunbowale scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter.Tayla McCowan and Natasha Howard had double-doubles and the Dallas Wings pulled away late for an 87-79 victory over the Chicago Sky in Wednesday night's season opener.
Trailing 75-73 with 3:16 left, the Wings scored the next 14 points. Ogunbowale made a deep 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to take an 87-75 lead.. Ogunbowale scored nine points in the inning, with Howard adding two points with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Maddie Siegrist hitting a 3-pointer for 13 points off the bench.
McCowan had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Sky, led by Marina Mabry with 19 points and nine rebounds. Diamond DeShields, returning for his second stint in Chicago, scored 14 points. 1st round draft pick Angel Reese Elizabeth Williams, who played for Washington last season, both had 12 and Dana Evans had 10.
Mabry hit a 3-pointer and Chicago led 43-40 at halftime. Mabry and Michaela Onyeah, who had 13 points at halftime, made back-to-back threes to build a 24-14 advantage in the first quarter.
Down 25-16 after the first quarter, Dallas rallied and took a 36-35 lead on an offensive rebound and putback from Stephanie Soares. This was the first professional point for Iowa State's 2023 first-round pick. She was unable to play last year as she forfeited her senior season due to a torn ACL. McCowan had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Wings at halftime.
Williams' basket tied the game at 62 in the fourth quarter.
Jaelin Brown, who went undrafted in 2020 and played four years overseas, started for Dallas but did not score. Wings first-round pick Jaycee Sheldon scored two points in nine minutes.
