norfolk, virginia – Old Dominion women's volleyball team and head coach Fred Chao announced the team's 2024 schedule on Monday.
Next season, the Monarchs will host two tournaments and play in two more. In non-conference play, ODU will face teams from the A10, AAC, ACC, Big Ten, Big East, Big South, CAA, Ivy League, MAAC, MEAC and Patriot League.
“We have a great fall schedule. We have a variety of opponents and have the opportunity to play unfamiliar teams,” Chao said. There are several challenges within the state and some tough regional competition. Most of our home tournaments have people visiting Norfolk for the first time. Overall, the non-conference schedule showcases well-coached teams and prepares them for a difficult Sun Belt schedule. ”
After welcoming Christopher Newport to the exhibition on August 23, Monarch will kick off its 2024 campaign by hosting the fourth annual Quest for the Crown on August 30-31. ODU will play Marist and UTSA on the first day of the tournament, and ODU will face Virginia in the final game on the second day.
Old Dominion will play at William & Mary on Sept. 3, then head to Villanova, Pa., to play in the Villanova tournament Sept. 5-7. ODU begins its trip against Princeton on Thursday, returns for a meeting with Loyola (Md.) on Friday, and faces the host Wildcats on Saturday.
The Monarchs will then travel to Fairfax, Virginia, from September 12-14 to compete in the George Mason Tournament. ODU is scheduled to play the host Patriots on Thursday, then take on Quinnipiac on Friday and Navy on Saturday.
ODU will host the Old Dominion Invitational Sept. 19-21 to round out its non-conference schedule. The first game on Thursday will pit the Monarchs against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. ODU returns to action the following night against Radford and concludes the invitational game against UMES late Saturday afternoon.
“Every game in the Sun Belt is going to be tough,” Chao continued. “The strength of the conference was recognized by the number of teams selected to the NCAA and NIVC tournaments. While treating each game as a 1-0 opportunity, we were able to earn the win that we had not had the past two years and become champions.” We set a goal to advance to the conference tournament. ”
The Monarchs will play two games each weekend in the Sun Belt Conference, as they face all six of their East Division rivals. First up is a road trip against Georgia Southern (Sept. 27-28), then the team returns home to play against Coastal Carolina (October 4-5) and App State (October 11-12). ) to play against. The Monarchs will play Georgia State University (Oct. 18-19), James Madison University (Nov. 7-8) and host Marshall University (Nov. 1-2). The conference schedule also includes two weeks of games against West Division teams, with ODU traveling to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to face Southern Mississippi State (October 25-26) and at home against Arkansas State. The regular season ends with a match against the university (November 14-15).
The 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be held from November 20-24 at the Foley Events Center in Foley, Alabama. Tournament seeding is determined solely by winning percentage against district opponents, with the top two seeds in each district receiving automatic byes to the quarterfinal round. The tournament winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
