The Northwestern Wildcats football team made a big announcement Wednesday night. The teams shared that the majority of their games this season will be played at the Lanny and Sharon Martin Athletic Facility near Lake Michigan on the university's Evanston campus.
Most of the team's home football games will be held at the enhanced facility as Ryan Field undergoes renovations for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The school is in talks with other venues in the Chicago area, and a complete schedule will be announced at a later date.
Head football coach David Brown said he is excited about the transition.
“We have always talked about providing the ultimate student-athlete experience, and keeping our teams on campus while providing a true home-field advantage will help us accomplish that mission. An exciting transition period. , playing in a venue that brings together the Northwestern community will be the perfect bridge to the new Ryan Field, and we are very much looking forward to the game-day experience for our program and the entire Wildcat community.โ
Northwestern will open the 2024 football season by hosting Miami, Ohio on Aug. 31, but Nebraska and Northwestern will not play each other this year.
