Massena/Potsdam — Northern Tribes Swimming (NTS) has been selected as one of 124 youth programs from USA Swimming Foundation's national network of swim lesson providers to receive a 2024 grant.
The $4,500 grant NTS will receive will support its ongoing efforts to provide free and low-cost swim lessons to youth through outreach programs.
The award was part of a total of $780,000 in funding given to programs across the country by the USA Swimming Foundation.
Joshua Jock, director of the Learn to Swim program at Northern TRIBS Swimming, said: “The funds we receive will go toward our year-end goal of graduating 500 new children from our learn-to-swim program. Many participated in more than one section at a time, with many swimmers receiving discounts for enrolling in more than one section, family discounts available, and full scholarships awarded on an as-needed basis through outreach programs. Masu.”
NTS offers learn-to-swim lessons and club practice year-round at the high school pool in Massena and the SUNY Potsdam Maxey Hall Pool in Potsdam.
Massena also offers adult lap swimming during the school year and this new spring water aerobics.
Swimming lessons are for ages 5-12 and will teach you how to build a comfortable life underwater, explore underwater, dive, freestyle and backstroke.
Swimmers who can complete at least two distances around the pool without stopping can try out for club teams from Stroke School, followed by age groups and junior and senior members who teach advanced skills such as how to swim the breaststroke and butterfly. You can challenge Ship.
Most of the senior members are on traveling teams and are eligible to compete at the national level at the local Adirondack Championships.
USA Swimming Foundation reviewed more than 400 applications through a competitive annual review process and selected 124 youth programs and 38 adult programs for funding.
“USA Swimming Foundation is proud to continue to provide swim learning opportunities at the local level for both adults and youth,” said Elaine Kalip, executive director of USA Swimming Foundation. “With excitement surrounding the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for swimming and the Olympics, we expect interest in our sports to increase. We want children and adults to be safe in and around the water. We're excited to continue our partnership with lesson providers across the country to help you stay connected.”
Through USA Swimming Foundation's network of swim lesson providers, comprised of more than 1,500 qualified lesson providers across the United States, millions of people benefit from lifesaving swim lessons.
