It took a while for the Duke University basketball team to officially enter the fray for Prolific Prep (Calif.) standout AJ Divanza. Earlier this month, the Blue Devils became the last of the Bluebloods to make an offer for the versatile 6-foot-9, 200-pound five-star forward, who is ranked No. 1 overall in the 247Sports 2025 Composite Rankings.
But now that Duke University basketball head coach John Scheier and his staff are on board, it sounds like they're a legitimate candidate.
After scoring 21 points in the Oakland Soldiers' blowout win at Nike EYBL Session 3 in Indianapolis on Friday night, Divanza singled out Duke as a program he would check out after his summer of grassroots action, Zags Blog Charlie Parent reported.
“I'm open to any school,” Divanza, 17, told parents. “But I'll probably visit.” [to Duke] in autumn.I think I'll try it next to peach jam. [in July] Then please accept my visit. β
DiVanza added that he plans to visit Kentucky, Oregon, Arkansas and southern California.
He is one of nine 2025 prospects on Scheier's wishlist, which is made up entirely of five stars and the top five in the 247Sports 2025 overall rankings. 4 of them, and 6 of the top 10.
