Officials said the day after the Love Manteca event, the Doxey Park cricket field was “covered in dog faeces that had been discarded and scattered around.”
MANTECA, Calif. — Manteca city officials are asking people to come forward about what they call vandalism at the Doxie Park cricket field.
Officials said Sunday, just one day after the Love Manteca event, the cricket field was “covered in dog faeces that had been abandoned and scattered around.”
“(This) can only be described as a hateful and senseless act,” the city said in a social media post. “It's hard to believe that someone would target a public space meant for fun and recreation in such a disrespectful manner, hours after an event that was meant to bring our community together in a spirit of unity and positivity. And it's really disappointing to see that there are still individuals who choose to spread hate and division.”
The new cricket pitch was not funded by the city's general fund, but by a grant intended to provide convenience to residents.
“Our parks should be safe and welcoming spaces for all residents to enjoy, and we will not tolerate any activity that seeks to undermine that,” city officials said in a statement.
City staff are cleaning the pitch and are calling on anyone with information about the behavior to come forward and “hold those responsible to account”.
