Net Insight has partnered with Mobilelinks to provide an upgraded broadcast experience for Sweden's top-level ice hockey league, the Swedish Ice Hockey League (SHL).
While TV4 plays a vital role as the hockey premium rights (SHL) broadcaster, Mobilelinks has the key responsibility of managing all transport services powered by Net Insight technology.
One of the milestones of this partnership is the expansion of the existing Nimbra infrastructure. The Nimbra platform can switch 1.2 Tb and sends feeds from all venues to NEP's data center, which serves as the central facility house. Production takes place in three remote production centers geographically distributed throughout the country. This robust setup connects 14 of his SHL arenas across Sweden, each enhanced with dual 10Gb redundancy. Such a configuration is designed to handle peak times, such as when up to seven matches are played simultaneously.
With a remote production strategy and centralized hardware configuration, NEP consolidated resources into one location and optimized the efficiency of broadcast equipment, leading to improved utilization.
Swedish ice hockey fans look forward to around 500 games in the top league every year. Each game leverages the capabilities of this revamped infrastructure and promises to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience for viewers. In a notable achievement, the Swedish Ice Hockey League is the first sports league to champion UHD IP remote production. Incorporating his 12 cameras primed and prepared for ST 2110 and JPEG XS ensures ultra-high resolution videos and broadcasts.
With remote production leveraging JPEG XS in UHD and a strategic transition from SDI to ST 2110, the commitment of SHL and its partners remains clear. The idea is to provide fans with an unparalleled viewing experience. At the heart of this mission is the Nimbra 1060, which ensures reliability, excellent video quality and problem-free broadcasting.
“With recent upgrades across all Top League venues, Mobilelinks can now run remote production for the SHL seamlessly. With the introduction of JPEG XS, we are ready for UHD production and advanced ST 2110 workflows. “The production gallery particularly praised the minimal wait times, which we believe are extremely beneficial for producing fast-paced ice hockey matches.” Andreas Rangel, Mobilelinks CEO. “As always, the Nimbra platform stands as a beacon of reliability and trust, meeting the standards we expect.”
“We are on the edge of a new era of sports broadcasting,” he says Christel Fritsson, CEO of Net Insight. “The synergy with Mobilelinks and the capabilities of the Nimbra platform will definitely change the way ice hockey enthusiasts in Sweden engage with their favorite sport.”
