Legendary Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook agrees to five-year contract extension โ with special bonus
University of Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook will remain with the Huskers. Athletic director Troy Dannen announced that Cook has signed a new five-year contract. The contract runs through January 31, 2029, and will bring Cook's annual salary to $825,000, an increase of $75,000 per year. He will also receive a $70,000 retention bonus on July 1, 2024. “We are fortunate to have Coach John Cook leading our volleyball program,” Dannen said in a statement. “He is one of the best coaches in the country and one of the best coaches in American volleyball history. John expects excellence in all his endeavors, and his record reflects that. ” Cook, who has led the Huskers to four national championships, will also receive bonuses for “certain levels of athletic performance” and a deferred salary contract, according to the athletic department. “I am very grateful to Troy and the administration for their support and confidence in the Huskers volleyball program,” Cook said in a statement. “When Troy and I discussed my contract, I suggested that rather than give me annual raises like some coaches do, the Nebraska Department of Athletics support me in purchasing a horse in central Nebraska that I have my eye on. The horse, known as No. 415, was born and bred on Erickson's famed Pitzer Ranch and is a once-in-a-lifetime racehorse. He was purchased as a weanling by Mark Ray and then trained by the Ray family. Troy loved the idea, and although we didn't specifically write it into the contract, any retention bonuses would be used for No. 415. I am honored and it means a lot to me that Troy supported my idea. We are all looking forward to an exciting 2024 season.” Click here for the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
