Class B boys soccer players took to the field Thursday, the fourth day of the NSAA state soccer tournament. Skutto Catholic is a four-time defending champion, but most think this year's Class B field is empty. The Skyhawks won. The first Class B quarterfinal was played at Morrison Stadium in Crete. Skutt led 1-0 at the half before Maxwell Oster scored and added another point to make it 2-0 Skyhawks. It stayed that way until about 10 minutes left when Peace Havens went in for an assist again, this time with Cole Esner converting. Skut advanced and defeated Crete 3-0. Undefeated Bennington faced Schuyler. It was a great start for Schuyler as Kevin Martinez found the back of the net less than a minute into the game. Six minutes later, Austin Kizer scored his 33rd goal of the season, tying the game at one point. The game remained scoreless until overtime, when the Badgers got a corner kick, which Xander Hanisch put into the net. Bennington remained undefeated, defeating Schuyler in overtime with a 2-1 victory. Skutto and Bennington will meet in the semifinals on Saturday. Please click here. The Skyhawks faced Crete in the first Class B quarterfinal at Morrison Stadium.
