comment: The only remaining undefeated team in Class A took over the mantle and became the new leader of the pack. Southwest also has resumes available to support selection. The Silver Hawks have four wins against top-ranked teams this season, including a 3-0 victory over newly-minted Metro champion Creighton Prep, and their wins are getting better by the day. The Junior Jays will play a state title rematch against Gretna on Thursday night in their pursuit of conference honors. Lincoln East jumped into the rankings with five straight wins. That includes a 7-0 result against a ranked Norfolk team. East has the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament scheduled for next week and a trip to Gretna on Saturday.
class B
1. South Sioux City, 8-0, 1
5. Elkhorn Mount Michael, 4-2, 7
comment: There will be an important test for all teams in the top five over the next 10 days. South Sioux City holds onto the top spot heading into this weekend's Thomas Jefferson Invitational. That will be followed by games against Mount Michael, Creighton Prep and Crete over five days. The latter went from unranked all the way to No. 4 with wins over unranked Aurora, Schuyler and Lexington in five days. Bennington takes on Elkhorn North in Friday's Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament championship game, followed by a state final rematch with Skutto on Monday.
