On July 29, the Beijing team won the 2024 National U-12 Youth Ice Hockey Championship.
The 2024 National U-12 Youth Ice Hockey Championship concluded on July 29 at Weihai Ice Hockey Stadium in Shandong Province.
The tournament was organized by the China Ice Hockey Association, hosted by Shandong Provincial Sports Bureau, and managed by Shandong Provincial Winter Sports Administrative Center, Weihai Municipal Sports Bureau and Weihai Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee.
After seven days of fierce competition, the Beijing team emerged victorious, with the Shanghai and Shaanxi teams taking second and third place respectively.
“The whole team's goal was very clear: to win,” said Beijing team coach Dong Liang.
“On average, the children have been practising ice hockey for around seven years and this is their first time taking part in the National U-12 Series tournament.”
The event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of the young athletes, but also attracted many parents from across the country who took the opportunity to explore the local culture and natural scenery of Weihai Lingang District.
“This is my first time in Weihai,” said Deng Tingting, a parent of a player on the Shaanxi team. “I took advantage of my child's participation to experience the relaxation and beauty of this coastal city.”
Building on the success of this event, Weihai Lingang District plans to utilise the Weihai Ice Hockey Hall to strengthen its competition planning and hosting capabilities.
The District aims to establish a continuous, multi-tiered ice hockey competition system and promote the development of ice and snow sports, thereby improving the level of youth competition and encouraging wider participation in these sports.
