Panthers score 5 goals in first half in rivalry showdown
Pleasant, MT — The Mount Pleasant vs. Fairfield girls soccer matchup resumed Monday at East Lake Park. The Panthers defeated the Trojans 7-0.
The Panthers scored five points in the first half. Among them were two from Aurora Hamel and two from Sarai Sanchez.
“I just want to put the ball in the net,” Hummel said. “It’s satisfying to put it in there.”
Hummel's second goal was a wild bouncer and he deflected it past the keeper, giving the Panthers a 4-0 lead at that point.
“I thought it was go over or miss,” Hummel said. “I thought I was going to kick someone, not the ball. I'm glad no one was hurt.”
Hayley Parrott scored two goals in this game, one in the first half and one in the second. Charice Auverda put one in.
Matisin Wenke recorded two assists on the day. Busy Lichtman, Addison Peck, Parrott, Spinner and Awwada each finished in first place.
“We played really well,” Mount Pleasant head coach Chris Davis said. “We kept the ball wide and Matty came in with a cross and got a man up at the back post to score.”
Mount Pleasant had 22 shots on the day, 12 of which went on goal.
“We have a very young team, so it's a little difficult right now because they're learning as they play,” Fairfield head coach Alex Cardenas said. “The second half was like night and day.”
Mount Pleasant is now 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. Fairfield is 0-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.
