Maryland women's basketball acquired Virginia guard/forward Mir McLean from the transfer portal on Friday, filling the last open roster spot.
The 5-foot-11 junior was unable to play in the 2023-24 season due to injury. However, she had an exceptional performance in the 26 games she played for the Cavaliers, scoring 11.8 points and nine rebounds per game. She also recorded seven triple-doubles.
Before attending the University of Virginia, MacLean spent part of his freshman and sophomore campaigns at UConn. She never blossomed into more than a bench player for the Huskies, averaging just under three points per game in 24 games her freshman year.
McLean, a Baltimore native, was a McDonald's All-American and the No. 25 ranked recruit in his class.
“It's fitting that the final piece of our addition is a local star in Mir MacLean,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I shared with Mil that not recruiting her the first time in high school was a big mistake. She wasn't going to let that happen again.”
