STARKVILLE, Mississippi — mississippi state bulldogs The annual Maroon and White spring game is just two weeks away. MSU is committed to increasing continuity between veterans and recruits.
The offensive line is undergoing the most changes as Bulldog head coach Jeff Levy signed four immediate transfers in December.
“They did exactly what we asked them to do. I like the fact that we have guys that have played a lot of football… They've done a really good job, but we have a lot of work to do. There was a lot going on,” Levy said. do. “
But new faces have emerged from the hardwood rather than from the portal or the high school ranks.
Jimmy Bell Jr. will join the football team this spring after his basketball season ended two weeks ago. The Michigan native has little experience on the field, having practiced a bit at his previous school, West Virginia.
“We are very excited to have him join us,” Levy said. “We will take baby steps with him and make sure we set him up for success.”
At 6-10 280, its magnitude is remarkable and cannot be taught. He is likely to play an active role in the offensive line by utilizing his size and footwork.
The Bulldogs are also adding new talent to their defensive line with the signings of Willkie Denault (Auburn), Sulaiman Kupaka (Purdue) and Kedrick Bingley Jones (North Carolina). All three come from Power Five-level schools, but none of them made it big at their respective schools.
“They both did a really good job,” Levy said. KJ (Bingley Jones) had eight very good practices and Pac (Kupaka) did a good job. ”
However, they will provide much-needed depth up front, with Calvin Dinkins and Trevion Williams likely to be starters, but the Mississippi State native has struggled with injuries. If the two are healthy, they can disrupt the opposing team's run game, junior linebacker Ty Cooper said.
“They're like pigs,” Cooper said. “You can't move them. They'll stop running every time.”
There's a lot of uncertainty on the defensive line, but the talent is there. They just need to grow up fast. The offensive line looked like a mess when Levy arrived, but that group has a chance to perform well this fall.
