“After watching it, I thought maybe the quarterback was better than in some moments,” Norvell said. “So, there were some mistakes and decisions that were made, but looking back, it wasn't. Florida State added four defensive transfers to the 2024 class: Marvin Jones Jr., Sione Lolohea, Grady Kelly and Tomiwa Durojaie. The defensive line in particular will have a lot of new faces after Jared Vaas and Fabian Lovett left for the NFL. Nobel said there were flashes throughout the spring.
“I think they're doing a good job, making sure there's an emphasis on technique and fundamentals, making sure the players understand the calls and what they're supposed to do. I'm still thinking about it a little bit. you guys”
Jones Jr., a legacy player who transferred from Georgia, was originally scouted by FSU and now lines up opposite Patrick Payton in the Seminoles' pass rush. With 12 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in 2023, Norvell was confident his initial assessment of Jones was accurate.
“I think Marvin is exactly what we thought he would be,” Norvell said. “Just in terms of athleticism, ability. I think you're growing with him.”
Along with Jones is Lolohea, a four-star transfer who joined Tallahassee this offseason along with former Oregon State teammate DJ Uiagalelei. Durojaiye, a West Virginia native, is also attracting attention.
“Sione is a very physical, powerful young man who is growing in confidence in what we want from him and how we ask him to do it. And Tomi , Tomi's been working a lot on his assignments, and we said, he came in thinking he could move around in this, um, so that's what we're doing. He's definitely a very active player. I like what I see from him, and I think he can definitely help us.”
Kelly, a redshirt junior who transferred from Colorado State, played in 26 games and started 22 for the Rams. He had 79 tackles, nine for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. Norvell said he thought he did a good job with redshirt freshman KJ Sampson.
“I know Grady Kelly. I thought he did a good job. I thought K.J. Sampson actually played well as well. So when you look at that D-line group, the Some guys are new and trying.''I stepped out and thought of some positive things and that's what came out. ”
