The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said the driver, a 79-year-old Hudsonville resident, attempted to swerve to avoid the boy but was unable to avoid the collision.
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in Georgetown Township Friday afternoon, police said.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the crash on Baldwin Street near Walnut Street in Georgetown Township just after 3 p.m.
Investigators say a 79-year-old Hudsonville man was driving a GMC pickup truck on Baldwin Street when a basketball rolled into the roadway.
Jenison, 14, ran out into the street to pick it up.
Police officials said the truck driver swerved but was unable to completely avoid hitting the boy.
Police said the car's front bumper struck the boy, causing moderate injuries.
Paramedics took the boy to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Investigators said the accident is still under investigation.
