Jersey City, New Jersey โ The New Jersey City University men's volleyball team snapped its fifth straight win in Skyline Conference play Thursday night, March 7, at home at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). NJCU defeated Mount St. Vincent University in straight sets and has dominated their last five games.
The Gothic Knights (8-8, 5-0 Skyline) started the first set with a one-point lead over UMSV (2-6, 1-3 Skyline) at 5-4. NJCU then took away his 17 straight points and against the Dolphins he jumped out to a 21-5 lead and took the set 25-7.Graduate student vice captain opponent James Bajo (Bayonne, New Jersey) dominated most of the first game, recording three kills on four swings with no errors and five aces on six digs.
The second set was a little closer, with the green and gold leading by one point, 9-8, with a third to go. NJCU then enjoyed a 9-2 run that gave him an 18-10 lead. The Dolphins cut the deficit to five points several times in the final minutes, but the Gothic Knights won the game in a six-point set, 25-19, to take the game 2-0. 5th year vice captain middle blocker Brandon DaSilva (Kearney, New Jersey/Kearney) He took the lead in the match, recording five kills on six swings with no errors, and added an ace and a block.
Game 3 started the same way, with UMSV leading 6-5 early, but NJCU fought back with a dominant attack, 15-3, taking the lead 20-9, and taking the set 25-12. and won the entire match by 3. set. 2nd year middle blocker Amar Perales (Harrison, New Jersey/Harrison) The rookie outside hitter recorded two kills in two swings and added a total of three blocks in the third. – Bajor saw two sets of action, leading all players in digs (eight) and aces (five), and added seven kills with just one error on 14 swings (.429 batting average).
– Pardasy once again led all players in kills (9), recording just one error on 19 swings (.421) and added three digs and two aces.
– Perales went a perfect 5/5 in attack attempts (1,000), led all players with six total blocks, and chipped in with three digs.
– DaSilva also played in two sets, recording six kills and one error on eight swings (.625) and added an ace, a dig and a block.
– 2nd grade setter Alex Casais (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) He led all players with 24 assists to several kills, two blocks, two digs, and one ace.
