Shane Evans is the new leader of the Manitowoc Lincoln boys basketball program.
He concluded his five-year career as the coach of the Ships team.
Evans was a freshman and JV boys head coach when he was named an assistant under coach Thad Cornell, who resigned in March after seven seasons due to family reasons. He told Seehafer Sports:
“I have worked at Manitowoc-Lincoln for the past five years and it is really reassuring to know that I am not leaving. I did not want to leave Rincon High School. I felt I had an opportunity and was excited to start. doing.”
Evans joined the program in August 2019, when she was hired as a special education teacher and general education behavior specialist.
He played basketball at Silver Lake College and was a team captain. There, he counseled high school students about college readiness and life skills as a College Readiness 21 coach and facilitated team-building activities.
Evans hopes that foundation will be based on a strong youth program, adding that the team will be taught to force the pace of play.
“I’m very good at ball screens and it’s all about getting an advantage by covering, scrambling and pushing the ball up and down the floor.”
Evans will rely on returning seniors Eddie Borchen and Braden Steinbecker to lead on and off the court, and is excited about the great group of young players looking to make their mark on the Lincoln basketball world. he added.
Regardless of whether he wins or loses in his first year, Evans was asked what his top priorities are in 2024-25.
“I want my players to have a good year. I want them to be excited. When we look back, I want them to be proud of what we accomplished and have no regrets. I want them to be proud of what they did and how they competed every night.”
Evans' employment is official and is pending approval by the school board.
