Effingham, Illinois-(Effingham Radio)- From the Effingham Unit 40 School Facebook page:
welcome to Effingham Unit 40 School Mac Thompson!
After 13 years coaching Robinson boys basketball, Mac Thompson will become the Effingham Flaming Hearts' new athletic director, effective July 1. It was also announced Wednesday that Thompson will be the new men's basketball head coach. He is a three-time regional champion and two-time Sweet 16 finalist in IHSA boys basketball and leaves Robinson as the program's leader in coaching wins.
“I would like to thank the Effingham Unit 40 administration and school board for trusting me and giving me the honor of not only overseeing the EHS athletic department, but also serving as the new head men's basketball coach.
We plan to set up a meeting with players and families over the next week or so to organize expectations and summer schedules. This first summer will be a growing experience for all of us, learning new systems and new ways of doing things.
We would also like to reach out to individuals who would like to participate in building the Effingham Hearts program for kindergarten through 12th grade. We will provide youth basketball opportunities like never before in the Unit 40 School District.
In our youth programs, you don't have to be the best basketball player or know the most about the game to dedicate your time as a coach. You have to love the chaos that comes with youth basketball. I will teach you the building blocks that I think are important for growing and developing Future Heart!!
If you are interested in becoming an integral part of Effingham Hearts Basketball, please feel free to message us on Facebook Messenger or email us at thompsonm@unit40.org. I would love to discuss the vision I have for the future of the program!”
