GATE CITY, Va. (WJHL) — Gate City native Mac McClung returned to his hometown Friday to begin his fourth annual basketball camp.
McClun is a two-time slam dunk champion, 2024 G League MVP and leading scorer. He currently plays guard for the Osceola Magic.
News Channel 11 asked Makrun how it feels to return to the Gate City.
“It feels like coming home,” he said. “I have my season. I get to go home and be with the people I love and the community I love.”
On Friday, McClung invited area 8th through 12th grade basketball players to work on their skills and agility.
“There's a lot of kids that I'm really excited to be around. My best friends Danny and Nate run the camp and they train other NBA players and these kids I'm excited to get that experience,” McClung said.
McClung said adding basketball camp to his busy schedule reminds him of where his basketball career began.
“I tell my friends this is a lot of fun for me,” he said. “With my schedule, I'm running around every other day, every weekend, so just being here, being in my hometown, seeing kids that I used to be one of, it's amazing, dude. It's really humbling for me. It's a moment.”
The camp concludes at GCMS on Saturday. Two sessions will be held: one for kindergarten through third grade, and one for fourth grade through seventh grade.
