Mountain Tap Brewery and local professional trail runner David Norris have partnered to launch a new non-competitive running series called Joggers and Lagers this spring and summer.
The series is meant to be social fun, starting and finishing at Mountain Tap Brewery on Yampa Street, with a free beer or soda at the end of the race.
Norris founded Mountain Tap earlier this year after noticing the lack of casual running groups in the city, despite Steamboat having a thriving running community with a successful competitive race series. I approached.
Norris has seen social runs become very successful in other towns and cities, particularly Anchorage and Salt Lake City, Alaska. He is as passionate about trail running as he is Nordic skiing, where he coaches at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and wants to share that passion with the community.
For each run, Norris offers two routes, an easier trek and a more challenging run. His goal is to attract as many competitive as well as non-competitive runners as possible.
Each run day, participants check in at Mountain Tap at 6pm and receive trail directions via QR code. Attendees will also receive a ticket upon check-in that can be redeemed for a drink after the race.
The series begins Wednesday and concludes with an end-of-season party on Sept. 18. Participants will win a prize raffle ticket for each race they complete.
The series schedule is as follows.
May – 8th and 22nd
June – 5th and 19th
July — 17th and 31st
August – 7th and 21st
September — 4th and 18th
