The coach who led Lincoln (Pa.) to its first CIAA basketball title is taking the next step.
Jason Armstrong, who led the Lions to their first tournament final victory in March, resigned on Friday and assistant coach Keyshawn McMahon replaced him on an interim basis. Armstrong and McMahon joined Lincoln in 2020 under former coach Corey Lowry. Armstrong was named interim coach in 2022 and was promoted to full-time coach last year.
“I would like to thank Coach Jason Armstrong for his contributions to the Lincoln University men's basketball program,” Lincoln University athletic director Harry Stinson III said in a statement. “Over the past two seasons, our men's basketball program has enjoyed unparalleled success. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
After falling to Winston-Salem State in the 2023 CIAA finals and falling to 17-15, Lincoln bounced back to earn the top seed in the North Region and defeat Fayetteville State 54-51 to advance to the 2024 season. won the tournament. The Lions (17-14) ended their season with a 97-63 loss to Gannon (Pa.) in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
McMahon joined the program as a paid assistant coach managing player personnel, but was promoted to assistant coach when Armstrong was named interim coach.
