Lemoore High School’s boys and girls swimming teams just finished their most successful season in their history, with exceptional performances and record-breaking accomplishments.
Women's team highlights
The girls' swimming team finished second at the West Yosemite League (WYL) Championships.
Junior Michelle Murphy had a standout performance, breaking a 16-year-old league record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.59, bettering her previous record of 2:09.49. Murphy also won the 100 freestyle and was named the WYL girls' MVP.
Murphy's impressive performance throughout the season earned her a spot in the CIF Central Section Division 1 Championship Swimming Meet earlier this month.
She placed in the top eight in two events (sixth in the 200 individual medley and fourth in the 100 freestyle) and also achieved a state meet qualifying time in the 100 freestyle. Additionally, she, along with teammates Aubrey Azevedo, Maddie Ball and Allie Anderson, played a key role in leading Lemoore High School's girls team to a berth in the valley finals in the 200 freestyle relay.
Men's Team Highlights
The LHS boys swim team won the WYL championship for the second consecutive year, winning nine of 11 races, including all three relay events. Senior Brendan Meyer excelled by winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Junior Drew Rose also had a great performance, winning two individual events, the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Other individual champions for the Tigers included junior Daniel Toste in the 100 butterfly and senior Tyler Eller in the 500 freestyle. Brendan Meyer was also named WYL MVP for the boys division.
Meyer also performed well at the Valley Championships, finishing in the top 16 in the 50 freestyle. Three boys relay teams also placed in the top 16, including the 200 freestyle relay team of Brendan Meyer, Case Meyer, Grayson Cunningham and Daniel Toste, who placed sixth and achieved the state qualifying time.
On May 22, 2024, both Michelle Murphy and Brendan Meyer were awarded the Lemoore School District’s Student-Athlete of the Month Award for May 2024. This honor recognizes their exceptional dedication, effort and outstanding performance throughout the swimming season.
