LE MARS โ The Le Mars Community and Sioux City West boys soccer teams are nearly even teams. The teams were tied in regulation in Tuesday's Missouri River Activities Conference game at Jim Lorenzen Field, which took two overtimes and an overtime shootout to ultimately determine the winner. .
Giovani Kabongo scored on a free kick to give the Bulldogs the lead midway through the first half. West tied the score with less than five minutes left in the first half.
West scored the first two goals of the second half, forcing the Bulldogs to fight back. After Deji Kabongo scored a goal to bring his team within one point, Giovani Kabongo tied the game with his second goal.
Neither team was able to score in two extra innings, and the game went to penalties. Both teams made four of their five attempts, and the shootout was extended to an extra kick. Neither team was able to score again until a penalty kick in the eighth set when Jackson Wells scored the winning goal for a 4-3 victory.
Jon Andrea had a long night as keeper and was able to make 10 saves for the Bulldogs.
With this win, the Bulldogs ended their losing streak at eight and moved up the standings to two wins and nine losses. West's record also fell to the same level. The win was the Bulldogs' first in MRAC play and improved to 1-4 in league play. West fell to 1-3 in the conference. It was Le Mars' first win in series history.
