Manager Kurt Warner is in the process of analyzing video of all the potential quarterbacks to be taken in the NFL Draft. And according to the Hall of Fame QB, the movie is difficult to watch.
We all know there's a big jump from college to the pros. But Warner became more specific as he considered these NFL Draft prospects.
“I know many of you love college football.” Warner wrote about X. “But once you start taking an interest in college QBs, it becomes difficult to even watch. They rarely play to a schedule, the passing concepts are almost always confusing, and the same plays are run over and over again.” There are a million bubble screens and you won't find many concepts that will take you to the next level.
“And[people]are asked to understand how good they're going to be at the next level! (Nearly impossible in my head) To me, CJ Stroud is a great example. Obviously in college, He's good at it and (Ohio State) runs more pro-style concepts than other players, but they don't want him to be quick on the ball and hit the ball. I didn't expect him to be this good at handling things this quickly because he did that in the NFL. He's better in the NFL than what we saw in college, but often , you won’t know until you know!”
Warner did not name names beyond mention. CJ Stroud, was the second pick in last year's NFL draft. Stroud easily won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and helped the Houston Texans win the AFC South title and advance to the second round of the playoffs. Overall, there were 10 rookies who started a game at quarterback in 2023.
As many as six quarterbacks could be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft this season. U.S.C. caleb williams It will probably be your No. 1 choice.in north carolina drake may and L.S.U. jayden daniels They will compete for second place with the University of Michigan. JJ McCarthy Probably in the top 10.of oregon bo nicks and Washington's michael penix is also a primary candidate. If all six pass, they will tie the NFL Draft's first-round record set in 1983.
Ten more players could be selected over the final two days of the draft. So if Warner's analysis is correct, scouts are having a hard time screening quarterbacks.
NFL draft prospects will converge on Indianapolis this week for the scouting combine. The quarterback is scheduled to practice next Saturday.
Of course, Warner will always serve as an example of an NFL star who didn't need the draft. Every team ignored him in 1994.
