Mom guilt, running during pregnancy, running postpartum, and even running in a stroller are all issues that “mother runners” grapple with.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Whitney Hines found success by combining the three things she loves most: writing, running, and being a mom. “I write about everything at the intersection of running and motherhood,” she said.
Five years ago, the founders of Mother Runners figured it all out themselves.
“When I was a new mom, training for my first marathon as a mom, I was Googling all these topics, and obviously what was being written was It was written by someone who hasn't lived that life,” Hines said.
That's when she started an online community to give new moms and experienced moms the information they wanted. This website is filled with free training plans, conversations with experts, and Hines' personal experiences.
“When I started, a big theme that wasn't really written about was mom guilt. Every time I tried to go for a run, my kids would panic because they were attached to me. , I felt a lot of mother's guilt,'' Hines said. .

“My parents are busy,” said runner Hannah Colon. She said, “I'm busy taking care of my kids and getting everything done, so running away doesn't stress me out, but it doesn't weigh me down.”
Elizabeth Miner, another of Hines' customers, said, “I think this work teaches kids that no matter their age, they can pursue their goals and accomplish things.'' Ta. She said, “Just because I'm an adult or a parent doesn't mean I can't pursue my own goals and aspirations.''
Five years after its founding, Mother Runners has grown into an international business, with Hines coaching women from all over the world.
As she journeys through life as an entrepreneur, runner, and mother, Hines' message to all mothers continues to motivate her. “She should never feel bad or guilty for taking her time for herself,” she said. “Because when you are the best version of yourself, you are the best version of yourself for everyone in the world.”
On May 19th, Mother Runners will partner with a local martial arts facility to offer runners a free women-only self-defense seminar in Knoxville.
