WILLIAMSBURG – William & Mary football head coach Mike London announced the hiring of Kevin Jarrell as the Tribe's outside linebackers/nickels coach.
Jarrell, a team captain and all-conference linebacker at W&M (2018-23), served as the defensive quality control coach during the Tribe's spring practice season after concluding his standout playing career in the fall.
“I've known Kevin for a long time, going back to his days as a player at Monticello High School in Charlottesville,” London said. “He transitioned from quarterback to linebacker here, but his mindset and attitude has always been about the team and winning first.
“Kevin is an excellent team leader and represented this program with proven performance on the field, in the classroom, and in the W&M community with a first-rate demeanor. A former captain and conference standout, he brings a tremendous skill set to the table. He will be a great addition to our team and staff.”
Jarrell, in his third year as a starter, finished his career with 203 tackles, 11 TFLs, 10 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. His best season came as a senior, where he ranked second in the CAA and 17th nationally in solo tackles per game (5.3) and earned All-CAA honors. Additionally, he led the team in tackles (84) and ranked 11th in the CAA in tackles per game (7.6).
Jarrell also played a pivotal role in the Tribe's record-breaking 2022 campaign. He was one of the most productive players on a team ranked among the nation's top defensive backs, leading W&M to a top-10 national ranking, a CAA Championship, and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.

As a student-athlete at W&M, he interned with the Tribe's coaching staff and completed independent studies. Among his many responsibilities were recruiting, organizing camps, charting plays and assisting with data analysis.
In addition to his success on the field, Jarrell also excelled in the classroom, receiving the CAA Secretary's Academic Honor Award each year throughout his career. Additionally, he was selected as a nominee for the Chuck Boone Leadership Award and the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
Jarrell, a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, comes to Williamsburg after a record-breaking career as a quarterback at Monticello High School, where he was ranked as the state's top prospect by the Roanoke Times. In addition to setting school records for career total yards (8,482), passing yards (5,594), and rushing yards as a quarterback (2,888), he recorded 3,513 yards of total offense and 49 total touchdowns as a senior, both It was a school record. .
Jarrell earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.
