Alleppey, Kerala:
A YouTuber from Kerala is in serious trouble for attempting a dangerous stunt inspired by a popular Malayalam film, allegedly setting up an improvised swimming pool inside a moving car by laying a tarpaulin and filling it with water.
YouTuber Sanju Techy posted a video of the stunt and it quickly garnered thousands of views.
In the video, Sanju and his friends can be seen having fun as a water-filled car drives on the road.
The Motor Vehicles Department on Wednesday took strict action against the popular YouTuber for violating various traffic rules, and his vehicle registration was also suspended.
Recent videos he posted to his social media channels show the YouTuber and friends swimming in a car “pool” and sipping coconut water.
The car is seen driving down a busy road while the men are seen swimming in an improvised pool inside the car.
When water began to seep into the driver's seat and engine, Sanju and his friends had to stop the car midway to drain the water, causing a massive traffic jam in the area.
Following widespread criticism of the video, the local Motor Vehicles Office summoned Sanju Techi, who appeared before road traffic enforcement officers on Wednesday.
“They released water from their vehicles onto the road in a dangerous manner, posing a serious safety threat to other vehicle users on the road,” a senior MVD official told reporters.
As punishment, Techi and the three others who were in the car have been directed to perform a week's community service at the Government Medical College and Hospital here and also join a training programme run by the ministry, official sources said.
He added that the licence of the person driving the car would also be suspended for one year.
The YouTuber and his friends were reportedly trying to recreate a swimming pool scene from a recent Malayalam film.
