Karan Wahi, who completes 20 years as an actor this year, grew up dreaming of playing cricket for India. However, when he was 16 years old, his injury forced him to give up on that dream. In a special shoot with his HT City during his IPL season, Wahi talks about why he had to give up on his passion. “I had major ankle surgery, but at that time I didn't have anyone to push me to keep trying,'' says Wahi, who started his acting career on the TV show “Remix.''
The 37-year-old, who grew up in Delhi, remembers being spotted by batsman Shikhar Dhawan's coach and rubbing shoulders with the two former India openers. “Ek baar, Gauti bhaiya (Gautam Gambhir) ne 7 chhakke maare thhe just ek over mein” Virender Sehwag also used to come to practice at the ground next to my house. I used to bowl to him while he was training there,” Wahi recalls.
No wonder, then, that the actor wished he had a chance to play for Delhi once. “When IPL came around, I even thought of quitting acting and going back to cricket!” confesses Wahi, who is an ardent fan of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Cricket enthusiasts are reflecting on the omission of batsman Rinku Singh from the playing XI for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States. “It's not just the number of runs that matters. It's also about the strike rate, the average, the position you play. It's a situation where someone is going to miss out. It's like picking from the good. I feel his time is coming. ” he says.
Wahi also reacted to the trolling that Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been facing. he says: “If I were him, first of all, I would never go back to Mumbai (from Gujarat Titans). Last year, you single-handedly led your new team to the finals. He's from the state. I don't think there was any reason to make him the captain of MI this year, he could have done it next year. And now that they're not winning, there's more trolling against him too. I feel sorry.”
With RCB almost eliminated from the 2024 IPL, Wahi is looking forward to June 9 when India and Pakistan face off in the next World T20 to be held in New York City, USA. After all, it's his birthday. “My visa and flight tickets are sorted, but the match tickets are not sorted yet. Still, I want to give my parents the experience of watching the India vs Pakistan match,” he said. Concluded.
