PlayStation announced Wednesday that subscribers to the PlayStation Plus Essential tier will get Borderlands 3, NHL 24 and Among Us as part of their subscription starting July 2.
All three are big names, but to avid console gamers, they're pretty well-known. NHL 24 may seem timely, coming just after the Stanley Cup Final, when Florida nearly collapsed in winner-take-all Game 7 before beating the Edmonton Oilers 4-3. This kicks off a brief offseason for professional hockey, with the season opener scheduled for early October and the next edition of EA Sports' officially licensed video game due to be released just a few weeks before that.
Borderlands 3 is the latest installment in the franchise that pioneered the loot shooter subgenre with the original Borderlands back in 2009. Borderlands 3 launched in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, with native versions later released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to coincide with the launch of both consoles. Either way, fans can expect wild sci-fi post-apocalyptic mayhem, gratuitously aggressive mutant beasts, psychopathic villains, and tongue-in-cheek robots in Gearbox Software's latest entry in the series.
First released in 2018 and seeing a surge in player numbers and popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Among Us isn't a free-to-play game as you might expect: the light-hearted social mystery game (a la Clue) set on a spaceship has something of a live-service model with crossovers and collaborations.
When will these free PS4 and PS5 games be available?
However, it's a paid title, in which a group of players try to find an evil Impostor who's trying to kill crewmates and destroy their ship. The latest update for Among Us, released last week, introduced a new Impostor role and a new crewmate to keep everyone on their toes.
These three games will be available to add to your library or download for free starting Tuesday, July 2nd.
June's free games, “Streets of Rage 4,” “AEW Fight Forever” and “SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake,” will be available to download until July 2nd.
