With the death of Josh Baker, Worcestershire have lost a “good player and a great cricketer”, said former coach Shaftab Khalid.
West Mercia Police are not investigating the death of a 20-year-old spinner on Thursday as there are no suspicious circumstances.
Khalid, who is England Under-19's spin coach, worked with the left-hander after coming through Worcestershire and England's youth setups.
Worcestershire's senior coroner confirmed he had received a referral reporting Mr Baker's death.
He added: “No further information is available at this time pending further investigation.”
Baker's death was announced just one day after he took three wickets in County's Round 11 match against Somerset on Wednesday.
“It was shocking because I've worked with him since I was 16,” Khalid told BBC Sport.
“Worcestershire have not only lost a hugely talented cricketer, but also an amazing and wonderful human being. He was a very kind, humble and kind person.”
Redditch-born Baker made his first-class debut in 2021 and signed a three-year contract with his country last year, representing England Under-19s.
He played 47 matches across all formats and took 70 wickets, including two County Championship appearances this season, the last against Durham in April.
Former Worcestershire off-spinner Khalid said: “He was young when he signed his professional contract, but he was trying to help his mates, guiding them in a big brother way to get a professional contract.'' That's what I was trying to do,” he added.
“As a very young kid, he was a mainstay in the dressing room. He got on really well with all the coaches. He was a Worcestershire boy, so he played for the county and then England U.S. I played for 19 teams and my dream was coming true.''
“He was an all-format cricketer and had a big future, but unfortunately you never know what life will bring. This is a big lesson for everyone. He will be truly missed. ”
